Destination Review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Destination Review - Essay Example The major features of the Hong Kong tourism sector are the implementation of the Quality Tourism Services (QTS) and the promotion of the community-wide hospitality culture, these two aspects should be described here in more details. The QTS is aiming at enhancing the standards of service among retailers working in the tourism sector and restaurants. 'The Scheme was strengthened in 2006 to include visitor accommodation in the scheme, aiming to provide visitors with better quality assurance and a more comprehensive and effective complaint handling mechanism'. (Tourism Commission, 2007) The number of the outlets which have received the QTS certificates by the end of 2006 was about 6,000, which is the sign of the support and growing confidence of the visitors in the high quality of tourist service in the region. The government makes everything possible to promote sustainable development of the tourism branch in the region, which is achieved through the support and promotion of the community-wide hospitality culture. This program includes the series of activities, namely Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme, service quality seminars and other related campaigns. (China National Tourism Administration, 2006) The Government has also financed the Service Quality Study which was finished in 2005 and was aimed to make the work within the tourism sector more efficient through directing efforts at agreeing activities among various departments and state bodies. One of the most highlighted tourism events in Hong Kong was opening of the Disneyland in 2005. This attraction has about ten thousand visitors a day. Other popular attractions include Victoria Peak, Ngong Ping 360, A Symphony of Lights. The nature of tourism industry The market of the tourism in Hong Kong displays permanent growth and was easily recovered from the negative consequences of SARS in 2003. (Go et al, 2004) The growth of this market is actively supported by the government, which is proved by the fact that the amount of state expenditures in 2005 was equal to 6% of the state budget, compared to only 4% in 2004. (Tourism Commission, 2007) The Government sees high level of importance in the developing of tourism and its main aims in supporting the market of tourism and expanding its market share are the following: the development of the tourism infrastructure, which includes development of hotels and improvements in the already existing networks; development of the tourism related infrastructure (roads, restaurants, transport, etc). 'The Governments of HKSAR and the Chinese mainland are working towards the construction of large-scale road and rail crossings, including the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor (HK-SWC) and the Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau Spur Line; and also pursuing the advance work for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link. The Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau Spur Line is also expected to open in the first half of 2007' (Wen Wei Po Daily, 2004) improving the quality of the industry; it should be born in mind that positive development of tourism is the pushing factor for better employment of the local population. At present the share of tourism in the national GNP is 3.2% (after trade, logistics, financial services and other services), though this index is not very high, but

Development of Electronic Media in the Mauritius

Development of Electronic Media in the Mauritius CHAPTER 1 Introduction 1.0 Chapter Overview This opening chapter introduces the study by examining the background and historical perspective of the development of the Electronic media use worldwide and in Mauritius. The emergence of the phenomenon of electronic media addiction is introduced, and then brought into focus as it is beginning to affect electronic media users around the world, including Mauritius. Next, the aims and objectives of study and the research questions are identified. The chapter concludes with the research questions and the scope of the study. 1.1 Background of the study According to Huesmann (2007) electronic media has become a common fashion today, especially among college students. One of the most remarkable changes in our society in the 20th century and 21st centuries has been the saturation of our culture and day-to-day lives by the electronic media. In this new generation radio, television, movies, videos games, video, cell phones, and computer networks have took on principal roles in our children’s daily lives. Electronic media improve the general knowledge by giving us with information all around the world. News transmit through different electronic media make it easier for us know about the day-to-day events in the world. News, tele films and documentaries revolving around social issues improve a social perception in teenagers and increase their concern towards societal environment. Electronic media also contribute to the enhancement of our language, knowledge and vocabulary. It is now a general truth that T.V and other means of electronic media is a strong source of not only giving information but also teach and satisfy the masses. Jennifer (2008) and Azeez et al. (2014) have found that research has proven that television has had either positive or negative impacts. Electronic media can be described as those communication which is based on technology or electromechanical means of production and most often differentiated from print media Berkowitz and Rawlings (1963), Azeez et al (2014). The main electronic sources used by public normally comprise television, radio, sound recordings, video recordings and internet. It can be found that there are four basic functions of electronic media which generally include to inform, satisfy, teach and most important to influence public opinion (students). They also stated that the 20th century is heavily influenced by communication technology. Motion pictures arrived on scene in the first decade of this century. The radio broadcast began in 1920s while TV entered in the world in 1940s, followed by cable television in 1950s, and satellite television in 1970s. Lastly the personal computer gave access to internet in 1980s. It transformed the interconnected computer networks through World Wide Web by 1990s. Many benefits are connected with electronic media use, such access to needed information, international access to news and events, and interpersonal communication through email. But, along with the phenomenal expansion of the electronic media, there has been increasing concern internationally about the dangers related with electronic media over-use and becoming addicted to it (Buchholz, 2009; Daily News, 2008, 2009; Fackler, 2008; Janta, 2008; Khaosod, 2007; The Associated Press, 2009; Wanajak, 2011). A possible risk of using these new forms of media technology is also beginning to appear. Majority students are becoming too addicted to it and is having an impact on their academic performance, cyberbullying, sexting, becoming aggressive, becoming victims of aggression, insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality among students, and health problem such as affecting overall diet quality. Specially, increasing numbers of adolescents are becoming victims of aggression committed by peers wit h this new technology as cited in David-Ferdon and Hertz (2007). Examples comprise adolescents creating Web sites or sending e-mail or text messages that are meant to humiliate or harass a peer and/or to threaten physical harm called cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can be defined as bullying that occurs using electronic technology which contains devices and items such as mobile phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication instruments containing social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites. Examples of cyberbullying contain emails or mean text messages, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and humiliating pictures, clips, internet sites, or imposter accounts. Moreover, according Mr Ismael Bawamea an â€Å"enqueteur du bureau† at the Ombudsperson for Children Office in Mauritius, these offenders usually use SMS, e-mail, chat rooms and Facebook and social networking sites to spread their message. â€Å"Parents think they are observing thei r children effectively online, but according to an ICSF study, which is carried out in Mauritius, it has been found that less than 10% of parents monitored the websites,† says Mr Ismael Bawamea. â€Å"Without the necessary measure to ensure child protection online, children in Mauritius face massive dangers†, he indicated (Defi News, 2011). Researcher has collected over the past half century that exposure to violence on television, movies, and, most recently, in video games grows the risk of deviant behavior. According to the researchers, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP); a latest study demonstrates that the average 8-10 year old child spends approximately eight hours a day using different forms of electronic technologies, and older children and teens spend more than 11 hours per day. Children and teenagers who have a Television in their bedroom spend more time with electronic media. Corresponding, the current amount of users for mobile phones, text messaging, e-mai l, and chat rooms by our teenagers have opened new venues for social interaction in which aggression can happen and adolescents can be victimized (Huesmann, 2007). Hence, Mauritian students are also facing many of the phenomenal problems due to electronic media. With the coming technology, everyone have a laptop and a Smartphone and with the everyday life, both parents work nowadays and adolescent do not have enough time to speak with their parents. After school, the teenagers go to their rooms, and start surfing, watching television for long hours or even listening to music through their mobiles, on their laptops, on radio. Moreover, they even eat in their rooms and keep sitting in front of their screen. The weird thing is that, they will prefer to talk to a stranger through social media rather than going out and talk with their friends. According to recent ICT indicators for Mauritius, a speedily increasing number of families and teenagers are using the Internet; the number of Internet subscribers at the end of 2010 was 284,200 and the number of mobile cellular subscribers was 1,190,900 in 2010 (Defi News, 2011). Henceforward, as stated in Al exa’s Statistics, Facebook can be seen as the number one site visited by Mauritian citizens as shown in the table below. Indeed, there were 159,480 Mauritians on Facebook as at 13th January 2010 as reported by the advertisement programme available on the network. Social Networking Site OR Social Networking Service (SNS) Ranking Facebook 1st YouTube 5th Tagged 24th Twitter 39th Badoo 42nd Hi5 51st Photobucket 54th Flickr 64th LinkedIn 68th MySpace 85th Table 1: Alexa’s Ranking of SNS visited by Mauritians in top 100 sites1 1.2 Problem statements A conversion in telecommunications has greatly changed communication by providing new media in order to have access to long distance communication in the last years. The first transatlantic two-way radio broadcast took place in 1906 and led the way to usual transmission via analogue and digital media. The new communication media now permit for long distance exchanges between higher numbers of populations. Electronic media is appreciating a wide use every day with a rise in technology devices being created. Technology has become a time wasting act that distracts youth from communicating personally with mates and family through face to face communication. Electronic media now comes in the forms laptops, tablets, desktops, mobile phones (containing new applications such as WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger, WeChat and many more), mp3/mp4 players, video games, movies, radios, and television. Electronic has displayed to record highs within the last era, thus altering the dynamic of comm unication. Electronic media, as it is known in different globe, has altered with time. Teenagers and technology appear to have a good relationship for each other. Both are young, proceeding rapidly, and ever altering. During the last 20 years there has been a sudden increase in new technology (David-Ferdon and Hertz, 2011). In the older generations teens readily accepted new technologies for example TVs, record and cassette players, computers, and VCRs, but the new generations have observed a virtual rapid increase in new technology, including mobile phones, iPads, iPods, Mp3/mp4 players, and personal digital assistants. This new technology has been eagerly accepted by adolescents and has caused to an expanded vocabulary, which contain instant messaging (â€Å"IMing†), blogging, and text messaging. Modern technology has many social and educational benefits. In an article (Anon 2010) was stated that with the emergence of internet as the global media, education has progressed to a large extent. Nowadays it is found that distance education programs are carried out through online media which has proved to be quite an advantage to people who seldom have the chance to have interactive classes. There are many television programs that impart knowledge on different facets of education comprising language, science, mathematics and so forth. Electronic media has facilitated in encouraging students to deal effectively with the present educational system. It has changed their view towards education. With the introduction of electronic media, education has got a new meaning. Problems arise when certain students do not use electronic media in a certain way that will have a positive effect on them, thus they become addicted to it. It is noticed that students give more attention to electronic media than they do to their studies (Ndaku, 2013). Teenagers try to follow new fashions, culture and style which is being presented in different programs and advertisements on television, on radio, through their smartphones, laptops, tablets, internet or posters on social networking sites. Teachers have showed concern about the risks students can be exposed to through these electronic devices. To respond to this concern, some countries and schools have, for example established new strategies about the use of mobile phones on school grounds and created strategies to block the use of certain websites on school computers. For example, in Florida, South Carolina, Utah, and Oregon are developing new strategies to cope with cyberbullying. Teachers have decided to take action individually by randomly inspecting websites used by teenagers, such as MySpace. This small activity emphasizes on the phenomena of electronic aggression: any type of aggression which carried out through technology, any sort of harassment or bullying (lying, making fun of people, making rude or mean comments, gossips, or making threatening or hostile comments) that happens through email, a chat room, instant messaging, a website, or even text messaging. Teachers, custodians, and other people who work wit h youngsters know that children and adolescents spend most of their time on electronic media such as blogs, instant messaging, chat rooms, email, text messaging rather that studying. What is not known is exactly how and how frequent they use different kinds of electronic? Could the use of electronic technology expand the likelihood that a teen is the victim of an attack? (David-Ferdon 2010). Electronic media is having a negative impact on the academic performance of students, cyberbullying, becoming aggressive, becoming victims of aggression, insufficient sleep and poor sleep quality among students, and health problem such as affecting overall diet quality. For example, too much addicted to violent video games or listening and watching too much of metallic, hard rock and rock music are affecting the brain and pushing the students in violent behavior. Attention is growing about the danger of teenagers to become victims of aggression carried out by peers with electronic media (David-Ferdon et al, 2007). Cyber-bullying is a global phenomenon which can include people from different countries. It can be defined as simple as continuing to leave a text through means of technology to someone who does not want further contact with the sender. Moreover, cyber-bullying happens when adolescents are tortured, bullied, harassed, humiliated, or in a different way which is targeted by a nother adolescent using the Internet, interactive and electronic means or mobile phones (Defi news, 2011). During recent decades, research examined the sleep patterns and habits of adolescents has become growingly more widespread. More precisely, lack of sleep and poor quality have been associated with impairments in declarative, procedural and working memory performance, as well as poor concentration on studies leading into poor academic performance at schools (Cain and Gradisar, 2010). Therefore, to conclude, that is the reason why I am conducting this research study. This research study aims at demonstrating the impact of electronic media on the secondary school students. 1.3 Aims and Objectives of study They are: To analyse the impact of electronic media on students’ social life. To find out how often the students use electronic media. To evaluate the attitude of students towards electronic media and measure the spending time on it. A Critical Analysis of the Poetry of Marvell Essay -- Biography Biogra

Critical Analysis of The Garden    As with many of his poems, Andrew Marvell wrote The Garden to put forward his point of view and then argue it logically. In The Definition of Love, for example, he writes about unrequited passions, insisting that Fate itself acts against true love; in The Garden he takes a similarly pessimistic viewpoint and takes it to its misanthropic limits, attempting to argue that being at one with nature and away from other people is the best way to live.    All poets have traits and habits that define their own style - some more so than others. Marvell's style is particularly recognizable, as he commonly uses several easily identifiable techniques and images. Of the latter, The Garden features many of Marvell's staple ingredients. Central to the entire poem is the idea of pure nature, of a world without the intrusion of mankind: Marvell's own Eden. In his poetry, he takes every opportunity to extol the virtues of a type of hermitage, of being at peace with oneself and the universe as a whole; this can also be seen as central themes in poems...

African Americans : the Role of Race Essay

Abstract The Following Essay defines and integrates the role race plays on the African American culture in their family values and politics in comparison to the Anglo American Culture. The United States has become increasingly diverse in the last century. While African American families share many features with other U. S. families, the African American family has some distinctive features relating to the timing and approaches to marriage and family formation, gender roles, parenting styles, and strategies for coping with adversity. African cultures, slavery, slave rebellions, and the civil rights movements(circa 1800s-160s)have shaped African American religious, familial, political and economic behaviors. The imprint of Africa is evident in myriad ways, in politics, economics, language, music, hairstyles, fashion, dance, religion and worldview, and food preparation methods. In the United States, the very legislation that was designed to strip slaves of culture and deny them education served in many ways to strengthen it. In turn, African American culture has had a pervasive, transformative impact on myriad elements of mainstream American culture, among them language, music, dance, religion, cuisine, and agriculture. This process of mutual creative exchange is called creolization. Over time, the culture of African slaves and their descendants has been ubiquitous in its impact on not only the dominant American culture, but on world culture as well. The Role of Race According to the U. S. Census Bureau 13. 6 percent, 42 million, of the total U. S population was made of people who identified themselves as black. This is a 15. 4% increase from 2000 to 2010 (Rastogi, Johnson, Hoeffel & Drewery, 2011). Is it becoming increasingly difficult to describe the American black population, though the majority of American blacks trace their heritage to slavery, an increasing minority are voluntary immigrants or their descendants. More Africans have entered the United States since 1990 as voluntary immigrants than entered as slaves before slave trafficking was outlawed in the early nineteenth century ( Marger 2012 p. 178). Never before and in no other country have as many varied ethnic groups congregated and combined as they have in the United States. With such reputation, here is exactly where the famous term â€Å"melting pot† arises. This conception has traditionally been perceived as the best expression to describe the multi-ethnicity of America. Its basic idea presents the whole nation as one large pot. Anyone who enters the United States is automatically thrown into this â€Å"pot† where, for the following years, a process of assimilation into the American belief systems is taken place. Assimilation is all the cultural aspects that one brings into are blended together, or melted, to form a new culture. The outcome of this massive procedure is the â€Å"melted† version of a culture, which is described as characteristically â€Å"American. † It is notable that in this assimilation, the identities of each original culture are extinguished to bring out a complete new mixture Slavery Part of the control mechanism of slavery was to strip African Americans of identity, language, and culture of their homeland. This was done by undermining and replacing family structures with temporary ones built around identity as slaves. This undermining was not however entirely successful as many slaves organized themselves into family structures very similar to nuclear families. Family Formation Within African American families, the formation of a household often begins not with marriage, but with birth of a child. 56% of African American children are born into families where the mother is not married to the biological father. Single women head 54% of African American households. African American women are taught to be strong and independent, to prepare for careers rather than rely on marriage for economic security. Marriage According to the 2010 census only 40% of black households were married couples. While 40% of African American men and 35% of African American women over 18 had ever been married. Experts attribute this decrease to factors including a shortage of marriageable African American men and to structural, social, and economic factors. Black males have a 32 percent chance of serving time in prison, as compared to 6 percent of white males. Nearly one in three African American men in their twenties is in prison, on parole, or on probation. Blacks account for 28% of arrests even though they represent only 13% of the nations population. These realities decrease an African American woman’s chances of finding a marriageable mate. Conflict Theory suggests that Higher arrest rate is not surprising for a group that is disproportionately poor and therefore much less able to afford private attorneys, who might prevent formal arrests from taking place Parenting and Discipline African American families tend to be more strict, to hold demanding behavioral standards, and to use physical discipline. This is however, balanced within a context of strong support and affection. Physical punishment among African American families usually doesn’t result in the same negative outcomes as it does for white children. Income and wealth In 2005 Median income of Black families was $37,500 compared with $64,663 for White non-Hispanic households. Black income today resembles that of Whites more than 10 years ago. African American unemployment is 11. 2 percent, which is more than double that of whites. Factors explaining official unemployment rate of young African American males * Many live in depressed economy of central cities * Immigrants and illegal aliens present increased competition * White middle-class women entered the labor force * Illegal activities at which youth find they can make more money have become more prevalent One in four African Americans are poor, compared to one in twelve whites Politics President Kennedy, in a 1961 executive order, was the first president to call for affirmative action by prohibiting discrimination against minorities by contractors who receive federal funds. The order also told them to hire and promote minorities. Supporters of affirmative action sought not just equality of opportunity but equality of results. The fact that millions of Americans, both black and white, hoped that retired General Colin Powell, an African American, would run for president in 1996 was a milestone. The color of a person’s skin was no longer a barrier to seeking the nation’s highest office. By 2004, there were 39 African Americans in the House of Representatives and more than 9,101 others in elective offices throughout the nation. Three African Americans served in the cabinet, and another sat on the Supreme Court. * Four hundred forty-five African Americans were mayors of major cities. * A federal holiday is now observed for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. * Retired General Colin Powell held the highest military post * On January 20, 2009 Barrack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the Unites States. His inauguration was attended by an estimated 1. 8 million people on the Washington National Mall, the Capital grounds, and the parade route. Hundreds of millions in the country and around the world watched the historical event on television. Stressing unity, responsibility, change, and action. Obama declared,† Starting today we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again, the work of remaking America. † Slavery Part of the control mechanism of slavery was to strip African Americans of identity, language, and culture of their homeland. This was done by undermining and replacing family structures with temporary ones built around identity as slaves. This undermining was not however entirely successful as many slaves organized themselves into family structures very similar to nuclear families. n). Journeys End presents ideas about heroism Essays

Journeys End presents ideas about heroism Essays Journeys End presents ideas about heroism Paper Journeys End presents ideas about heroism Paper Explore the ways in which â€Å"Journey’s End† presents ideas about heroism. Compare and contrast this with the presentation of heroism in â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth† and evaluate the view that â€Å"Journey’s End† celebrates heroism, whereas â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth† does not. â€Å"Journey’s End† is a complex play laced with ideas about heroism. As it was written by a war veteran, the messages involved should be credible and insightful. â€Å"Journey’s End† does seem to celebrate heroism as it is a very dominant theme within the play, and it is shown in both various ways. In contrast, â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth† doesn’t exactly look on heroism as a good aspect of the war (or something to celebrate), but more of a necessity. However, both dramas do show opposing views, from Hibbert’s initial cowardice to Stanhope’s obligated bravery and from George’s naive enthusiasm to Blackadder’s desperation to escape: it could easily be argued that the writers were trying to present views that both celebrate heroism and do not. â€Å"Journey’s End† incorporates heroism very thoroughly to give the audience an understanding of the circumstances the soldiers had to face. Hibbert is a perfect example, as he is an officer that is reluctant to stay in the trenches any longer – so fakes his neuralgia in an attempt to leave. His anxiety breaks through to the surface, as he argues with Stanhope: â€Å"I swear I’ll never go into those trenches again†. Yet Stanhope’s mantra is â€Å"just go on sticking it out†, and he manages to persuade Hibbert with very patriotic speech, telling him to â€Å"take the chance, old chap†. Stanhope is the voice of reason here and speaks almost as Hibbert’s conscience. Hibbert is required to be brave despite being incredibly fearful and flighty. Fear is relentless within each of the characters, but its concealment is what differs. Although in â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth†, George is at the other extreme with his boyish over-enthusiasm, due to his naivety and upper-class background. This inadvertently makes him a hero, at least in the eyes of someone like General Melchett, for being so eager and committed. Yet in â€Å"Goodbyeee†, George’s character is developed as he admits his fear of death – which suggests he’s been aware of the dangers for quite some time and perhaps just feels inclined to fight â€Å"for king and country†. This isn’t unheroic by any means, but somewhat tragic, and it’s quite essential for George’s inner thoughts and feelings to be presented – as it’s a total contrast from how he seems. Before he reveals his fear of death to the others, Melchett offers to let him come back to HQ and can â€Å"guarantee a seat in the car†, but George’s blind-faith in the war propaganda is so strong that he declines, as he wouldn’t want â€Å"to miss this show for anything† an over-exaggerated conversation structured by Curtis and Elton to highlight the ridiculousness of the circumstances of the war. â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth† has been criticised by Michael Gove, as he says it reflects â€Å"an unhappy compulsion on the part of some to denigrate virtues such as patriotism, honour and courage†. I disagree, though it is important to remember they are short comedy episodes that carry truthful representations of the war in a satirical light. I do believe the show criticises the glorification of honour and patriotism (within propaganda, for example), but it doesn’t mock the heroes themselves. Courage is subtle within the drama, and it definitely isn’t a characteristic that is belittled. In the final episode as Baldrick offers his â€Å"cunning plan†, Blackadder says â€Å"Well, Im afraid itll have to wait†, which seems to be in the knowledge that they won’t return. This is the ultimate bravery as they go over the top and collectively face death. Stanhope has to carry the burden of the image of heroism, as he’s struggling with alcoholism. He is both a hardened and troubled officer who entered the war with the intention of being heroic, yet turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism. Stanhope carries this burden until his death. He has a tough outer-shell despite breaking down inside, and both this exterior mirage and his inner conflicts are exposed to the audience, which allows them to see the reality of life in the trenches. Despite his issues, he remains loyal to his duty. When Raleigh questions Stanhope drinking after Osborne’s death, Stanhope displays another war-earned trait by losing his temper and asking him if he thinks â€Å"there’s no limit to what a man can bear? †. This question reflects Stanhope’s personal issues and elaborates his drinking problem. It could also mirror Sherriff’s experience, and writing through Stanhope and the other conflicted characters provides a release – through revisiting the war, almost. Heroism seems to be Stanhope’s anchor in the middle of chaos, but through this image he’s able to manipulate anyone under his command. This is similar to the authority he had in school (punishing younger boys for drinking, ironically enough) of which Raleigh remembers and so idolises him all his life. Raleigh is the opposite of Stanhope in terms of experience, and is fresh with innocence. He ‘earns’ his hero status through his constant urge to do his duty, which much like Stanhope and his facade of heroism, carries to his death. The naive and inexperienced boy watches a friend die in front of him, and he also dies in a very noble way. He insists â€Å"I’m certain I’ll be better if if I get up†, showing patriotism in a sick and sad sense, which seems specifically written to demonstrate his youthful heroism. Although mortally wounded, Raleigh’s fighting spirit is undiminished. Stanhope’s honesty within his confession to Osborne gives further depth to his character, especially when he says: â€Å"D’you ever get a sudden feeling that everything’s going farther and farther away – till you’re the only thing in the world – and then the world begins going away – until you’re the only thing in – in the universe – and you struggle to get back – and can’t? †. This unmasks Stanhope’s isolated psyche and how adrift he feels, proving that he faces many torments, armed with a great deal of courage. I believe that Sherriff wrote this confession scene to unearth deeper dilemmas that Stanhope had in order to shock the audience and get them to sympathise with the universal soldier, and respect them as heroes for not only putting their lives on the line, but their mentality and physicality. Publisher Ralph Hodder-Williams criticised â€Å"Journey’s End† in 1929: â€Å"You have no idea what terrible offence â€Å"Journey’s End† has given - and terrible pain too, which is a great deal more important. I think you will agree that the chronic alcoholic was extraordinarily rare. † this strikes me as being a reflection of the time as this critique was during the prohibition, a time in which alcohol was frowned upon, so Hodder-Williams may have taken a dislike to Stanhope’s behaviour and the way Sherriff presented him. I also think his comment about â€Å"the chronic alcoholic† isn’t accurate, as Robert Gore-Langton asked veteran Captain Amherst about alcohol in the trenches, and he said he â€Å"never drew a sober breath†. The inaccuracy may be due to a lot of people, even in 1929, not recognising the emotional and psychological impact of trench warfare. â€Å"Terrible pain† is also very extreme, as I think Sherriff was simply trying to expose the escape from the war that some soldiers needed, much like Blackadder in â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth†. Within the show, the desperation to leave is apparent and is used as a comedic feature but the meaning behind it is more sincere. The dialogue is laced with irony and satire, particularly involving or directed at General Melchett. Melchett’s speech is propaganda based and so obviously immoral, and with the aid of Blackadder’s sarcastic retorts, the audience realise how cowardly the high-ranking officers were which is the total opposite of the obligated bravery of the soldiers. Melchett and Darling are particularly mocked when they reassure Blackadder and Co. that they are â€Å"right behind you†, to which Blackadder responds â€Å"yes, 35 miles behind us†. Although this is humorous, there is a large grain of truth in it. In this sense, heroism isn’t celebrated it’s seen as a necessity. As contemporary writers, Curtis and Elton are writing solely based on history and personal opinion, but successfully convey the idea that in the war it wasn’t a choice to be a hero or not. I also believe that although â€Å"Journey’s End† celebrates heroism, Sherriff writes such individual problems and developed characteristics for each officer so they are recognised by the audience as actual humans and when together they meet their ultimate fate, it all feels futile and very tragic, so much so that the officers can’t not be considered heroes. In conclusion, although â€Å"Blackadder Goes Forth† and â€Å"Journey’s End† are works of a different time, they both carry very important ideas regarding heroism that remain relevant today. Heroism is defined as â€Å"great bravery†, and I believe the characters within these dramas and all those involved in the war truly epitomise what it is to be a hero. (1,476 words)

Case Study on Unemployment in Pakistan Essays

Case Study on Unemployment in Pakistan Essays Case Study on Unemployment in Pakistan Paper Case Study on Unemployment in Pakistan Paper Pakistan Unemployment Rate ABSTRACT The cause of unemployment in society was very important topic. We have to conductive proper survey and collect the data through questionnaire and after completion of the data 24. 67% unemployment is due to extreme growth in population and 28. 67% non coordination between education and job opportunities. Less investment in technical field is also a reason of unemployment. According to a survey research, we come on this point unemployment is also depend on economic condition of our country. Now a days professional and technical education necessary for our society INTRODUCTION: The term in unemployment means, â€Å"A person is unemployed if he or she did not worked during the preceding week but made some effort to find working the past four weeks† Unemployment is one of the major problems of Pakistan. The level of unemployment is moving up. The socio economic system of the country and institutions has failed to provide employment to the increasing labor force. The rate of expansion in industrial sector is very slow. The increasing labor force has not been absorbed. Increasing output of general education institutions is the major cause of educated young men’s unemployment. Technical, professional and vocational institutions are limited in number. Nationalization of industrial units very badly affected the investment industrial sector. The private investor shifted their capital to other countries. Employment in the private sector absolutely stopped for many years. The higher growth rate of population is the major causes of unemployment. The population has exceeded the optimum level. The Resources of the country are limited. Employment cannot be provided to the increasing labor force. The cottage industries in rural areas had been faded out by the machine made goods. The artisans have been rendered unemployed. Educated young men like white collar jobs. They do not like to perform manual labor. The higher age of retirement in government services has blocked the employment of educated young men. Reemployment of civil and military high ranking offices in government corporations and agencies deprives the qualified men from employment. The unemployment rate is a sensitive indicator of conditions in labour market unemployment is often associated with improving wages and working conditions as well as employers compete to attract retain workers.. When the unemployment rate is low, jobs are secure and relatively easier to find. Low EMPLOYED â€Å"A person is employed if he or she worked full time or part time (even for a few hours) during the past week or is on vacation or sick leave from a regular job. OUT OF LABOR FORCE: A person is to be out of the labor force if he or she did not work in the past 4 week. In other person neither employed nor un employed are out of the labor force. LABOR FORCE: Labor force consists of employed and unemployed person. A person is employ if he is able to work and looking for work. The term â€Å" able to work and looking for work† means who is able to work and is making effort to get work on pay and profit or trying to establish a business or enter into a profession or a waiting results of any of the following efforts ? Writing applications for job to different institute suited to him. ?Working with out pay in order to get experience and training. ?Applying for job on different advertisement persons looking for work may be of two types, 1. Previous experience 2. New job seekers CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN PAKISTAN There are a number of causes of unemployment in Pakistan. The most important of these causes is a non stop increasing population. Deteriorating law and order situation has slowed down the tempo of economic activity. Karachi is the biggest industrial base of our country. But investors are reluctant to invest there because of continuous unrest and violence. Our educational system is also responsible for the high unemployment rate among the educated youth. The attitude of our youth towards the choice of a career is also unrealistic and unproductive. They want to get only some white-collar job. Rapid mechanization and Computer technologies are also causing unemployment. Unnecessary and frequent strikes in factories have compelled the owners to go for automation and such technology as requires less manpower. Lack of infrastructure facilities, especially in the field of energy, telecommunication and transportation also prevent the industrialist from setting up new industries. Large scale smuggling which has flooded the market with cheaper goods poses a serious threat to the development of local industry. Tight bureaucratic control on the economy, inadequate credit facilities and complex tax system are also some important factors that are creating hurdles in the way of private sector investment in industrial The causes of unemployment in Pakistan are: 1 Lack of enough industries to employ ever increasing number of graduate in the country. 2 The government is not involving in capital expenditure which creates job Main problem of unemployment in Pakistan is that whenever a new technology comes as Software or hardware then all the people starts studying about that. Then at the end, you will see ten thousand students of a particular field against 5 or 10 job vacancies. Other reason is that in Pakistan, things are not handled in appropriate manner. Vacancies are less, but job seekers are more than that. Opportunities are not enough, and system of reference is so much indulged in our society that if a company need some employees then workers of that company will provide some resume to them of their relatives and friends so in this way many people don’t get the opportunity to apply for those jobs. I know system of reference is every where in the world, but not to that extend as in our society. But as these days software companies are growing and some new companies are starting their business very rapidly so I hope ratio of unemployment will become low soon. REVIEW OF LITERATURE: Pakistan at the moment houses the largest number of youth in its history. According to census 1998, youth under the age of 29 constitute 70% of the total population. As much as 64. 87% young population recites in rural areas and 35. 13% in urban area. The censes of 1998 counted 56 million children under the age of 15. there were another 13 million adolescents between the age of 15 and 19, and 11 million youth age between 20-24 years. it is a great tragedy that the vast amount of youth energies has never been put to proper use. It is clear in Pakistan: Youth unemployment is high and rising Youth are more unemployed then adults Youth women face poorer employment prospectus The majority of new jobs are low paid and of poor quality The cost of youth unemployment are high It is also clear: The cost of youth in unemployment are high There is an urgent need for action. POVERTY RATE IN PAKISTAN: Pakistan poverty rate continuous to rise. Unemployment in Pakistan has been aggravated due to constraints on public expenditures in recent years. Rising unemployment not only creates economic problems, but also has social consequences for society as a whole. A major contributing factor to growing impoverishment is Pakistan’s population growth rate of 2. 6% per annum that will lead, according to one estimate to a doubling population by 2020. PAKISTAN’S IMAGE IN RECENT YEARS: In recent years Pakistan image in international community has been damaged to the rise of violent extremist and fundamentalist elements in the society. The elements have been involved in kidnapping and killing foreign national in the country, resulting in the deteriorating image of Pakistan worldwide. This has aggravated the decline of foreign investment in Pakistan. IMPROVEMENT IN PAKISTAN’S RELATION: In recent years there has been improvement in Pakistan relations with international financial institutions due to sound economic policy pursue by the military regime. Pakistan successfully completed a stand by agreement with the IMF in 2001(i. e, the first ever, fully completed agreement between the IMF and Pakistan since 1988), with the poverty reduction and growth facility project in process and scheduled for completion at the end of 2004. The IMF and The World Bank have shown satisfaction with Pakistan’s economics performance in recent years. VIEWS OF QUIAD-E-AZAM: Quaid-e-Azam’s dream of exploiting the immense natural resources of the country for the best possible benefit of the people did not come true By Syed M. Aslam Jul 05 11, 1999 The founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, had dreamt of exploiting the immense natural resources of the country for the best possible benefit of the people. Accordingly, he eulogized the people to work, work and work to make Pakistan a prosperous state where Muslims of the sub-continent would have better religious, economic and financial freedom unlike the limitations imposed on them by the Hindus in the undivided India. After over fifty years, today, the dream of Quaid-e-Azam still remains to be materialized as the successive governments failed to exploit the natural and human resources wisely. Arguably, the economy is in such a worsening state which the country never experienced before. It is obvious from the fact that the biggest portion of the budget today goes towards the payments of foreign debts. Little is left for education, health and development. This has taken a serious toll on the employment opportunities in the country where finding a job at all levels is becoming harder by each passing day due to frequent lay-offs in the public sector in particular and private sector in general. FEW CHANCES OF EMPLOYMENT: There are many seekers but few jobs. In a society where ‘who you know’ has replaced ‘what you know’ as the major criteria for jobs, chances of employment are bleak due to massive downsizing in the public sector. Tens of thousands of graduates leaving the universities every year are finding it harder to find a suitable employment. Not only it is hard to find a job but the high level of unemployment has also hurt those already employed in a distinct way. With the abundance of workers the employers have leverage to hire and fire at will, play loose with the benefits and offer lower salaries and those who are not satisfied with the working conditions are always welcome to leave. Of course, there are thousands who are willing to fill the space at whatever the salary may be. IMPACT OF UNEMPLOYMENT ON SOCIETY: Unemployment undermines the economic and social stability of any society. Societies which fail to provide gainful and secure employment to their people invite political instability, social unrest and economic insecurity. The link between unemployment and crime has also been well established. Employment is also directly related to all industrial and trade activities. These activities slow down when there is a high level of unemployment but increases when it is low. In an inter-dependent world the unemployment issue has taken a global perspective. This is evident from the following example: The average annual rate of growth in global exports was 6. 6 per cent during 1965-80. It declined to 4. 1 per cent between 1980-91. While the developed world enjoyed the biggest share of the global exports, the slow-down not only affected it but also the developing countries, as declining industrial activities in the former decreased the prices of primary commodities in the latter. In addition, many of the developed countries became more protectionist raising new protective barriers against imports, particularly the competitive products, from the developing countries to further worsen an already bad situation. The situation has worsened with the eroding of trade borders and supersonic speed of communications and transfer of money today. INCREASE IN CRIME: The socio-economic fall out of the high unemployment rate in Pakistan is evident from the drastic increase in the crime wave. Today robberies, dacoities and kidnapping for ransom have become a fearsome fixture of life in the country. The resultant lack of civil peace and the rule of the law undermine the very basis of all industrial, economic and trade activities in the country. The case for sustainable development for employment can hardly be argued more forcefully. According to â€Å"UN† report: Economic policy plays a vital role to help keep the unemployment rate under check. According to a UN report, the East Asian economies in the 1980s avoided stagnation and unemployment did so because they got their domestic policies right by prudent borrowing, creative use of foreign exchange rates, promotion of exports, and protection of food growers and restraint of nominal wages. All these measures have combined to keep the growth of employment in step with overall economic growth. Can we learn a thing or two from this? The theme of The First United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (1997-2006) was Eradicating poverty is an ethical, social, political and economic imperative of humankind. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan delivering his message on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty observed on October 17, 1997 that some individuals today are enjoying wealth on a scale previously unimagined. Yet victims of poverty still endure intolerable forms of deprivation. They continue to be marginalized and excluded. He also said that though overall, the relative incidence of poverty declined, yet the number of world’s poor has risen considerably as almost one quarter of world’s population still lives in a state of poverty. For instance, he added, the number of people with incomes less than $ 1 a day increased by almost 100 million between 1987 and 1993 and 1. 3 million people, one-third of world population, live with an earning of less than $ 1 a day. UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF INCOME: The over emphasis on the maximization of the GDP has also led to uneven distribution of income in Pakistan. The data on income distribution, based on Household Income and Expenditure Surveys conducted by the Federal Bureau of Statistics during 1963 to 1994, shows at least four distinct phases of inequality at the ratios of the highest 20 per cent and the lowest 20 per cent income groups. The first phase between 1963-71 shows that inequality in income distribution narrowed the ratio of highest to lowest 20 per cent income group decreased from 7. 1 per cent in 1963-64 to 4. 9 per cent in 1970-71. The second phase, from 1971-79 widened the income inequality from 5. 4 per cent to 6. 1 per cent. Once again, the ratio declined in the third phase, 1984-87 from 6. 2 per cent to 5. 5 per cent. In the fourth phase, 1987-93, the inequality in income distribution worsened as the ratio sharply rose by 2. 3 per cent to 7. 8 per cent. The inequality between the household income shares of the lowest 20 per cent and highest twenty per cent is obvious from the data collected by the Federal Bureau of Statistics from 1979 to 1993. In 1979, the lowest 20 per cent enjoyed a share of 8. per cent of the total income while that of the highest 20 per cent was 41. 3 per cent. By 1992-93 the share of the highest 20 per cent increased by 7. 6 per cent to 48. 9 per cent while that of the lowest 20 per cent decreased by 2. 2 per cent to 6. 1 per cent. The middle 60 per cent share also declined from 47. 6 per cent to 45. 6 per cent during the same period. But the statistics also tend to give the false impression about the share of family income due to very basic flaw in the criteria for measurement of the labor force which includes all those over ten years seeking work during the year. The sharp decline in the household income shares of the lowest and the middle income groups can be attributed to unemployment and under-employment. OBJECTIVE OF STUDY: According to the topic of our survey research, â€Å"causes of unemployment in society† the basic purpose of the survey that what are the basic causes of unemployment among the people of the society. To attain our objective we define the main reason of unemployment in society as follows, Extreme growth of population Quota system Lack of resources’ Red ribbons Education system Non-coordination between education and job opportunity Non investment of land lord in technical field METHODOLOGY: In designing the questionnaire, we have considered the following points. All the questions are formed in such a manner that they are relevant to the objectives and purpose of study. All the questions are so easy that the investigator and respondent can understand them. The questionnaire is designed in English language. Our questionnaire consists of 16 questions. PROCEDURE ADOPTED: The following was the method of the study: TARGET POPULATION: Target population means the population about which we wish to draw inferences. Target population related to our survey research consists of all the individuals living in Islamabad and Rawalpindi and persons who are capable of any professional job and unemployed including all the status classes. SAMPLE POPULATION A sample population is that from which a sample is chosen. Sampled population related to our survey research consists of all people, who are capable of any professional/technical education and unemployed of the following randomly selected areas. Dheri Hassanabad and DHA II SAMPLE SIZE: Sample of size 75 selected and then equally disturbed for two areas. SAMPLING METHOD: Simple random sampling technique is used in selection of the sample. METHOD OF INQUIRY: By keeping in view the accuracy of the survey result â€Å"personal interview technique† is adopted which is widely used in social survey. The method of personal interview consists of personally contacting the responded and collecting data by questionnaire. Although this method is costly but it reduced the possibility on non response arising from non corporation, in difference, etc. By using this method we clearly explain to the respondents the objectives of the survey and the exact mature of data requirements, and persuaded them to give the required information. METHOD OF ANALYSIS To analyze the data we used proportion method Data collection Data were collected by administering the questionnaire personally on the selected sample. Data analysis The data collected through questionnaire were tabulated and analyzed on percentage basis. FINDINGS: Following are the findings of the study, Conducted survey shows that 37% of post graduate are unemployed in Pakistan. 53. 33% people are those who applied 1-3 times and then they get job Result shows that 68% people are those who done 1-2 times jobs. When asked that do their jobs match with their qualification 63% replied in negative. 69% people told that they are satisfied with their pay. 41. 34% respondents are those who applied for job more then 6 times. So we may conclude that people are ambitious. 46. 7 % people quit jobs due to personal reasons in which the main reason is that the pay was nit enough for them. 49% respondents were supportive members of their family while 51% respondents were non supportive. When asked 69. 33% responded said that gov job is better then private job. 37% peoples selected gov jobs due to pensions. 53. 30% people says that there are more chances for progress in private jobs. According to survey 42. 67% responded said that main reason of unemployment is extreme growth in population. Candidates told that 36% are selected on behalf of test and Experience. According to the survey research 54. 65% people prefer professional education and 40% people prefer technical education. Now a day’s professional and technical education has more importance. 64% Responses shows that women’s job plays an important role in increasing unemployment. 50. 67% result shows that attitude of getting high level job doesn’t plays a any role in spreading unemployment Opinion of most of the people about this question is that every one wants to earn instead of wasting time. CONCLUSION: One of the primary aims of any government should be the elimination of unemployment. Although achieving zero level unemployment is not only ‘highly impossible’ but also undesirable at various levels to check the inflationary trend. It is imperative that all governmental policies need to be directed towards achieving this goal. Identifying the problem is the first step towards successfully solving it. However, a look at officially compiled statistics shows that unemployment level in Pakistan is much higher than that portrayed by the government. This is primarily due to the criteria used for the measurements of labor force, employment and unemployment. Population census and periodic Labor Force Surveys are the major sources of data on labor supply, employment and unemployment in Pakistan. In addition, agricultural census also provides information on employment in the agriculture sector, the biggest employer of labor force, over 44 per cent or 15. 98 million people in 1999. Many changes have been made to define the meaning of labor force and employment in Pakistan- The Population Census of 1951 defined the labor force as all persons of 12 years and above was self-supporting, partially self-supporting or seeking work. In 1961, its definition was changed to include all those of ten years and above who were working for profit or wages or helping their family members. Not only the change lowered the age but it also included the unpaid family members in the employed. Today, Labor Surveys define employment as all persons of ten years of age and above who worked at least one hour during the reference period [the year] and were either ‘paid employees’ or ‘self employed. Based on this definition, the total number of employed labor force in 1999 is estimated at 36. 2 million. The basis for the measurement of Labor Force and Employment; all persons of ten years of age and above in the first case and a minimum work of just one hour during the year in the second, tempts to under-estimate the level of unemployment in the country. For instance, based on a population of 134. 5 million today and a participation rate of 28. 7 per cent, the total labor force in Pakistan comes to 38. 6 million of which 36. 2 million were employed. This also shows that only 2. 4 million persons were unemployed in the country which reflected an affordable unemployment rate of 6. per cent. In fact, unemployment is a much more serious problem than the official statistics show. This also poses another relevant and worrying question. If the unemployment rate of 6. 1 per cent is correct, the employment rate is an ideal 93. 9 per cent. Those who know Pakistan, and there are many, find this highly unpalatable. Unemployment in Pakistan today is prevalent at all levels. It does not spare the highly qualified professionals any more be they doctors, engineers and MBAs. It hurts the illiterates, non-skilled, skilled, and educated and professionals alike. However, it hurts the first two disadvantaged classes more than the others. While the weekend editions of major national dailies appear to be full of ‘help-wanted’ advertisements they only tend to give a wrong picture of the unemployment situation. Firstly, the majority of jobs advertised are aimed at the highly qualified professionals whose share in the total employment is just 3. 6 per cent. There are little or no vacancies advertised for the two biggest occupational groups- skilled agricultural and fishery workers whose share is 36. per cent and the elementary or unskilled workers whose share is 22. 9 per cent. In a country like Pakistan, where less than 1. 4 per cent of the children, enrolled in primary school, manage to reach universities and professional colleges, the increased demand for professionals in the job market could hardly make any difference for the majority which drops out at all levels of the academic progress. SUGGESTIONS: Following recommendations and suggestions in order to reduce the unemployment in society, Birth rate of country must be kept with in the reasonable limits. Education must be constructive and beneficial, so that the government should open different institutes for technical and professional educational. Selection of candidate must be fair. Working environment must be pleasant for encouraging females. Jobs level and salary must be according to the qualification. Bonus must be given on good performance in order to encourage the workers. Government should provide job opportunities to skill –persons al small level. Govt. should make efforts to push economic growth process. For this purpose Economic Revival Package should announce for the revival of industries sector, to stimulate production and investment. Govt. should announce a package for the development of agriculture sector. Beside this a number of fiscal and monetary measures should take to attract industrialists and particularly foreign investment. More Technical and Vocational training facilities should be provided. In this way unemployed people will get the chance to enhance their skills and become able to earn reasonable income. With a view to reduce educate unemployment; self-employment scheme should be encouraged in true manners.   REFRENCES: Bernanke, Ben (1998). â€Å"Basic principals of Macro Economics† Macgraw Hill, New York. 5 Things Productive People Do at the End of Every Working Day

5 Things Productive People Do at the End of Every Working Day We’ve all been there. Clock-out time rolls  around and it’s all you can do to grab your bag  and race your coworkers to the elevator. And, if we’re honest, you  probably spend the last 30 minutes  or so watching the clock and noodling with Facebook or email, thinking: why bother starting any new projects when the day is almost done? Sound familiar? What if, instead, you  put that last bit of your workday to better use and set yourself up for being more productive the following morning right out of the gate? Here are five no-fail strategies that won’t require a ton of effort, but will pay off big time when you come back to your desk.1. Plan for tomorrowTake five minutes to go over your schedule for the coming day. This will not only remind you of breakfast meetings or doctors appointments you may have forgotten, but will also give you the chance to mentally prepare for what’s in store. Need to dress to impress tomorrow? Make sure to bring y our gym clothes? Wear or bring heels for an evening event? You might even find yourself looking forward to your next work day, rather than assuming tomorrow will be just the same old same old.2. Landscape your to-dosLook back at what you’ve accomplished today and check those puppies off. Remind yourself of the outstanding items and make a priority list in your head for tomorrow. If it’s gotten messy or out of control, jot yourself a new one. This will also help you take stock of your productivity for that day- and strategize for how to do better tomorrow. You can learn from today’s distractions and set yourself up better for success.3. Organize your inboxWhen you’re cleaning up your coffee cup and snack wrappers and errant pens and office debris, make sure to go through the same tidying process in your email. Delete the nonsense and the junk mail, archive the important stuff, and leave only what you need to focus on when you get back to work. Sorting by s ender can make it easier to delete.4. Put in one last face timeDon’t just slink away. Check in with your boss or colleagues for a little post-work-day processing. How’d you all do? Anything urgent left on the docket? Any successes to go home proud of? Fires to put out tomorrow? This isn’t just a shrewd move for establishing yourself as a responsible team member, it can go a long way towards team building and camaraderie. And saying a proper and friendly goodbye is just as important when you’re the boss!5. Go homeThis may seem silly, but it’s awfully tempting to stick around and get a few things finished. Trouble is, this becomes a habit. Chances are you won’t get anything substantive done. Set yourself a hard cut-off time and stick to it. It will, believe it or not, help you be more productive tomorrow and won’t leave you feeling constantly fatigued or overwhelmed by work. Then simply relax, turn off your work brain, and enjoy the rest of the day- the part that belongs only to you.

At first, these new discoveries were not accepted well, but later on, people came to see their significance as they transformed the foundations of science. According to Porter, many achievements in the modern scientific sector made it easy to for medicine to be regarded as the motor and measure of progress (71). There was this belief of positivism that promoted the use of scientific methods to uncover enduring social laws. However, challengers of positivism pointed out that the ever changing human experience was not a basis for constant or enduring social laws (Hunt 753). In addition, the progress of science had its problems in cases of medicine whereby diseases seemed to be more challenging than anticipated. This made critics to question the role played by medical science in improving health, and if it played any role at all (Porter 72). Furthermore, the use of birth control stirred a lot of controversy as many critics saw it in a different light. Since

Final New Strategy Proposal using CVP Calculator for Tablet Research Paper

Final New Strategy Proposal using CVP Calculator for Tablet Development Corporation Product X5, X6 and X7 during 2012-2015 - Research Paper Example In order to bring a revolution in the existing business practices of the company, it is important that a new pricing strategy is devised that is based on the strategic objectives of each product individually. Furthermore, the decisions for the allocation of funds for the Research & Development (R&D) of each product should be taken individually and on annual basis to achieve the desired objectives of the product and the company. However, my strategic decision making for each year has resulted into 60% profitability in case of product X5 and 50% profitability in case of product X6. Furthermore, the increased spending on maintenance, support, enhancement and discovery for product X5 and X6 showed improved product which resulted in higher customer satisfaction. The discontinuation of product X7 through the four years helped in the success of the first two products. Nonetheless, a new strategy needs to be determined using contemporary strategy determining tools like Cost-Volume-Profit (CV P) analysis. The new strategy using CVP analysis has focused on X5 product in terms of its price but less allocation of R&D allocation in order to keep the other two products high on R&D investments. Thus, when X5 will attract less number of sales in one year, the other two products will attract higher number of sales volume. Overall, this strategy will help the Tablet Development Corporation to keep manufacturing all of its core products without discontinuing any of them. At the same time, it will allow Tablet Development Corporation to invest standardized amount of resources to each product and continue to produce a standard volume for sale purposes. As a result, the supply and demand of the product will remain balanced. At the same time, its products will remain in the market for a long time. 1.1 Aim The aim of this report is to develop a new pricing and R&D allocation strategy for the core products X5, X6 and X7 using CVP analysis and calculator. 1.2 Objectives To analyse the su bsequent performance and life cycles of each product due to the difference in the decisions. To determine the new pricing decisions and R&D budget allocation strategy for each core product, namely: X5, X6 and X7 taken in 4 years (i.e. from 2012-2015). To provide rationale of the proposed strategy with theoretical support. 2 Analysis of Pricing and R&D Allocation Strategy Used in Phase 3 Due to the use of CVP calculator, in the year 2012, the price of the product X5 was $263 and experienced a growth of 74% in its overall sales and revenue (See Annex 1). The customer base also experienced 60% new customers, 84% repeat sales and 113% profitability. The R&D budget was 15% from the estimated costs of $22,000,000. However, with the changed pricing strategy and R&D allocations, the product X5 experienced a growth of 65% in sales, 20% in new customers, 25% in repeat customers and 35% profitability in the year 2013. In the year 2013, the product X5 experienced a growth of 70% in sales, 26% i n new customers, 35% in repeat customers and 65% profitability. Likewise, in the year 2014, the product X5 experienced a growth of 85% in sales, 43% in new customers, 48% in repeat customers and 76% profitability. In 2015, the product X5 e
